HOW DOES EXOSOME THERAPY WORK?

Exosomes are small, naturally occurring vesicles released from cells that contain bioactive molecules like proteins, lipids, RNA, and microRNAs. These molecules can influence cell behavior and function, playing a crucial role in cell-to-cell communication and mediating various physiological processes. Derived primarily from mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), exosomes are isolated and purified using advanced techniques to ensure a high concentration of beneficial molecules.

Once administered, exosomes travel to target tissues, penetrate cells, and deliver their bioactive cargo. They modulate cell behavior by binding to surface receptors or being internalized by recipient cells, leading to regenerative effects like reducing inflammation, stimulating cell proliferation and differentiation, enhancing collagen and elastin production, promoting angiogenesis, and accelerating wound healing. This makes exosome therapy a powerful tool for skin and scalp renewal, repair and regeneration.

FAQs

1 / What should I do before and after exosome therapy treatment?

Prior to treatment, you will receive a consultation form to fill in via text, please complete this as soon as possible so we may better advise you on pre- and post-care.

General pre-care includes:

  • Sun Exposure: Avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning beds for at least a week before the treatment. Sunburned or tanned skin may be more sensitive and prone to complications.

  • Avoid Irritants: Refrain from using harsh skincare products, such as retinoids, glycolic acids, and exfoliants, for a few days before the treatment to avoid skin irritation.

  • Blood Thinners: Avoid taking blood-thinning medications and supplements, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, and fish oil, for at least a week before treatment to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding. Always consult with your healthcare provider before stopping any prescribed medications.

  • Anti-Inflammatories: Avoid using anti-inflammatory medications for at least a few days before the treatment, as they can interfere with the body's natural healing processes.

  • Alcohol: Avoid consuming alcohol for at least 24-48 hours before the treatment, as it can increase the risk of bruising and swelling.

  • Smoking: If you smoke, try to reduce or quit smoking before the treatment, as smoking can impair the healing process and affect the overall results.

General post-care includes:

  • Avoid Touching: Refrain from touching, rubbing, or massaging the treated area for at least 24 hours to prevent irritation and potential infection.

  • Gentle Cleansing: Use a gentle cleanser to wash your face and avoid scrubbing or using exfoliants for at least a week.

  • Sunscreen: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 daily to protect the treated area from UV rays. This is crucial to prevent hyperpigmentation and ensure proper healing.

  • Avoid Sun Exposure: Minimize direct sun exposure and avoid tanning beds for at least two weeks post-treatment.

  • Avoid Harsh Products and topical medications: Steer clear of products containing retinoids, glycolic acids, and other potent active ingredients for at least a week to prevent irritation.

  • Exercise: Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and activities that cause excessive sweating for at least 48 hours to reduce the risk of swelling and bruising.

  • Saunas and Hot Tubs: Refrain from using saunas, hot tubs, and steam rooms for at least a week, as the heat can exacerbate swelling and irritation.

  • Avoid Anti-Inflammatories: Continue to avoid anti-inflammatory medications and supplements, such as ibuprofen and fish oil, for a few days unless otherwise directed by your healthcare provider. These can interfere with the natural healing process.

  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to help flush out toxins and support overall skin health.

  • Healthy Diet: Maintain a balanced diet rich in vitamins and antioxidants to support the healing process and enhance the effects of the treatment.

2 / When will I see results from exosome therapy?

Many patients begin to see improvements the day after treatment with results continuing to improve a few weeks to a few months after starting treatment. Factors such as the condition being treated, the severity of the condition, and individual response can influence the timeline.

3 / How long do the effects of exosome therapy last?

The duration of effects can vary based on the condition treated and individual response. Some patients may experience long-lasting benefits, while others may require maintenance treatments to sustain results.

4 / Who is a good candidate for exosome therapy?

Anyone who wants to improve their skin or scalp health! Suitable for ethnic skin and sensitive skin types.

Waiting times for concurrent treatments. Exosome therapy can be done:

  • 2 weeks after anti-wrinkle or dermal filler

  • 2-4 weeks after microneedling

  • 4-6 weeks after an aggressive peel or laser (CO2, fractionated etc.)

  • 6 months after surgery

Exosome therapy should be avoided in patients with active infections, autoimmune diseases, cancer history, allergies to therapy components, sensitivities to biological products, on immunosuppressive or anticoagulant medications, active skin disorders e.g. exzema, psoriasis, severe acne (until the condition has been treated), compromised skin integrity, pregnant or breastfeeding women, uncontrolled chronic diseases, recent major surgery, immunocompromised status, or undergoing concurrent conflicting treatments. Consult our Dermal Clinician for a thorough assessment to determine suitability for exosome therapy.

5 / Is exosome therapy safe?

Exosome therapy is considered safe when administered by a qualified healthcare professional. Since exosomes are naturally occurring and derived from stem cells, the risk of adverse reactions is low. However, it is essential to consult with our Dermal Clinician to discuss individual risks and benefits.
