Pitted/Sunken Acne Scars (Atrophic)
Pitted acne scars, also known as atrophic scars, are a common consequence of severe, inflammatory acne lesions such as cysts or nodules that destroy skin tissue and are characterized by a loss of tissue. There are three main types of pitted acne scarring:
1. Ice Pick Scars
Narrow, deep scars that extend into the dermis, resembling tiny holes or large, empty pores.
2. Boxcar Scars
Broad, box-like depressions with sharply defined edges.
3. Rolling Scars
Wide, shallow depressions with smooth, rounded edges. A wavy or undulating appearance on the skin, often making the skin look uneven.
